The Columbia Police Department, under the direction of Chief Jason Cross, is committed to serving the community in a professional and efficient manner utilizing qualified and trained personnel and the most up-to-date techniques and equipment possible. It is the mission of the Columbia Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve. In partnership with the community and on behalf of the city to improve the quality of life for all. Our mandate is to perform our duties with knowledge, pride, integrity, and honesty to maintain public confidence by conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards. The Department consists of (12) full-time officers and (1) part-time officers, all of whom are certified by the Department of Criminal Justice Training. Certification requires the completion of a basic sixteen-week program in Law Enforcement at Eastern Kentucky University and a minimum of 40 hours of yearly continuing education classes in law enforcement related fields. Additionally, some officers are certified trainers in various fields: 3 Sergeants, 1 Detective, 1 School Resource officer and 1 DARE instructor.
