Street Department

The City of Columbia Street Department under the supervision of Donnie Rowe, is responsible for all of the City’s streets, storm sewers and the maintenance and beautification of public properties. In addition to Mr. Rowe there are two other full-time employees in the Street Department. The department is regularly assisted by inmates of the Adair County Regional Jail through the Work Release Program to meet the demands of the workload which often varies with the seasons of the year.Among the tasks performed by the Street Department are street sign and traffic sign maintenance and replacement, snow removal, litter removal, sidewalk replacement, maintenance of all drainage systems, grass and limb cutting as needed as well as clean-up and beautification of the City’s public properties.The Supervisor of the department must be CDL certified by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in order to operate larger maintenance trucks. The Department must also follow all OSHA and safety guidelines.
